Thanksgiving in August? It was Almost a Thing. But it’s Still Time to Think About Holiday Labels
I know, I know, the summer isn’t even over and we’re already talking about Thanksgiving. But, if Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president had had his way, Thanksgiving would have been in August. Yep, that’s true. Back in 1863, Abe issued the original Thanksgiving Proclamation, recommending that the national holiday be on August 6. Whew, can you imagine trying to cook a turkey in this heat?
Anyway, uncovering this bit of trivia got us thinking about Thanksgiving and all the traditions we here at Gamse observe. One of which is printing labels for cranberry sauce brands. Straight out of the can, it’s a mainstay side at almost every holiday spread. Another bit of trivia: Americans consume over 5 million gallons of jellied cranberry sauce every holiday season! And now some lesser known label trivia: Gamse prints millions of cranberry sauce labels for the leading national producers, so chances are you’re see our labels!
So, what are your brand’s traditions? Do you have great products that get served up over the holidays? Now’s the time to think about the fall season, and as you head into budget discussions, consider the next step for your product label strategy. Here are some questions to help you get started.
Do you want a new design?
Maybe you don’t want to mess with tradition, but sometimes, it’s good to mix things up with a fresh new label design. Give yourself permission to explore new ideas. Start by looking at what your competition is doing. Is there something no one else is doing that would shake things up? Would it impact your loyal customer base? Would it inspire new customers?
Do you want to try a new material?
A new label design might not be the answer, but maybe you want to experiment with a different material or substrate. Luckily, you’ve got a ton of options! From pressure sensitive to shrink sleeves, start by identifying and testing new materials and adhesives (and their pricing) well in advance of your production data.
Do you have a new product to launch?
Lucky you! This is a great time to put your new product out into the market universe with a ton of trending label options including eco-friendly, minimalist designs, allergen-free labels, bold typography, and interactive packaging, just to name a few. The goal is to make sure your labels grab attention, generate some excitement, and get put in shopping carts!
